Personal data

Born in 1954 (April, 30) in Riga, Latvia. In 1976 graduated from Riga Technical University as an engineer in “Automation and Remote Control”. Doctor of Engineering (Dr.sc.ing.) in Identification of Control Objects (1982, from Riga Technical University, “Minimax estimation of control objects model parameters under interval uncertainty of initial information”), Habilitated Doctor of Engineering (Dr.habil.sc.ing.) in Systems Simulation (1997, from Riga Technical University, “Methods for discrete-event systems simulation under limited resources”).

With Riga Technical University from 1976: at the Department of Automatic Control Systems (until 1993; as a research assistant, doctoral student, teaching assistant, lecturer, associate professor, acting head of the department), and at the Department of Modelling and Simulation (since 1993; as an associate professor, full professor, head of the department).

In 1987/88 spent a sabbatical year in Finland at Abo Akademi (the Swedish University of Turku) and the Helsinki University of Technology.

Corresponding member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences. Expert of the Latvian Council of Science in Information Technology, and in Transport and Logistics.

President of Latvian Simulation Society, Senior member of the Society for Modeling and Simulation International (SCS), Chartered IT Professional Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS), Board member of the Federation of European Simulation Societies (EUROSIM).

Editor in Chief of Scientific Proceedings of Riga Technical University, series “Computer Science”, volume “Information Technology and Management Science”. Associate editor of Simulation: Transactions of The Society for Modeling and Simulation International”. Editorial board member of “ International Journal of Simulation and Process Modelling ”.

Invited speaker at AMS 2009 (Indonesioa, May 2009) and WAMS 2010 ( Brazil , May 2010) international conferences. General Chair of HMS 2003 (Latvia, September 2003) and ECMS 2005 (Latvia, June 2005) international conferences, General Co-Chair of HMS 2008 (Italy, September 2008), HMS 2009 (Spain, September 2009) and HMS 2010 (Morocco, October 2010) international conferences. Programme Chair of HMS 1999 (Italy, September 1999), HMS 2000 (Italy, October 2000), HMS 2001 (France, October 2001), HMS 2002 (Italy, October 2002), HMS 2004 (Brazil, September 2004), HMS 2005 (France, October 2005), HMS 2006 (Spain, 2006) and HMS 2007 (Italy, October 2007) international conferences.

Listed in „Top 10 Latvian Research Achievements” ( Latvian Academy of Sciences, 2008). Excellence Award winner from Lattelecom Ltd., Latvian Academy of Sciences , and Latvian Education Foundation, 2006.
